Darwen Tower has been a Grade II listing building since 1972, meaning that it's a building of special historical and architectural interest that holds protected status.

This status also means that any preservation or restoration work must follow guidance that keeps the building in good condition without damaging or altering the features that make the building of special interest. This makes restoration much more costly than say, re-laying your patio!

Recent restoration

The tower has gone through a major professional restoration project over the last few years, with work still ongoing as of June 2022.

The work was carried out by specialists UK Restoration Services at a cost of £305,000. This was funded through indirect central governnment funding via the Darwen Town Deal, Darwen Rotary Club, and Blackburn with Darwen Council
